Summer Sailstice was founded in 2001 by John Arndt, a long-time recreational sailor and Advertising Manager for Latitude 38. John together with a volunteer team of 6, remains the owner of the company and is active in the continued growth of Summer Sailstice.

Every year, Summer Sailstice connects over 5,000 sailors all over the world on the summer solstice (the weekend before) to celebrate the joy all sailors – from cruisers to racers to recreational – experience out on the water.

Summer Sailstice has been self-supported with the help of a volunteer crew and a small amount of revenue from merchandise sales. The goal is to create a self-sustaining event which can support the organizers and developers with funds from sponsorhip, advertising, merchandise sales and licensing. As these arrangements are under development we ask that you respect the below outlined legal requests.

SUMMER SAILSTICE LOGO USAGE

The following terms constitute a legal Agreement. You must agree to all these terms before downloading and/or utilizing any of the Summer Sailstice materials or logos.

Summer Sailstice has been using the Summer Sailstice logos since 2001. To sailors and the public, the Summer Sailstice logos have come to symbolize the Summer Sailstice holiday. It has become our mark which symbolizes Summer Sailstice trade activity. We have consistently used the logo on our summersailstice.com web site and associated promotional materials and merchandise. The Summer Sailstice word mark and logos are registered trademarks of Summer Sailstice..

If a trademark isn't "protected" (by letters asking people not to use it, or by licenses that allow them to use it only in specific ways), it gets into the public domain and loses its protected status. If this happened, anyone could use the logo without restriction, including in ways that were detrimental to Summer Sailstice.

Therefore, in order for Summer Sailstice to protect the integrity and impact of our Summer Sailstice logos, we need to maintain artistic control over what kinds of Summer Sailstice logo images are used. The following policies must be followed regarding usage of the Summer Sailstice logos:

Non-commercial use of Summer Sailstice Logos:

Summer Sailstice will hereby license the Summer Sailstice logos for non-commercial products and non-commercial web sites. In addition to complying with all of the following terms, any use of the logos requires an acknowledgement of their trademark status and, if the use is on a web page, the logos must be used as a link to www.summersailstice.com. To request Summer Sailstice logo artwork, please send email to john@summersailstice.com indicating where, how and for what purpose you plan to use the image(s).

Acceptable non-commercial uses of the Summer Sailstice Logos:

The Summer Sailstice logos may be used on non-commercial web pages, in newsletters, mailings and other event collateral where the context in which the Summer Sailstice logos are placed portrays Summer Sailstice and www.SummerSailstice.com in a positive light. Additionally, the Summer Sailstice logos may not be modified in any way. You will need to include the following language in small text somewhere on the page where the Summer Sailstice logo appears:

"The Summer Sailstice logo is a registered trademark of Summer Sailstice and is used with permission."

A link to our home page (http://www.summersailstice.com) is also required for all non-commercial uses of the Summer Sailstice logo.

The Summer Sailstice logos may be used only on non-commercially sold merchandise and items. These items may include, but are not limited to shirts, hats, coins, logbooks, stickers and Summer Sailstice event-related items. Additionally, the Summer Sailstice logos may not be modified in any way. If the lifetime use of the design is less than 25 units, you may consider permission automatically granted. These items may not, under any circumstance, be sold or exchanged for value.

Commercial Use of Summer Sailstice Logos:

As owner of the Summer Sailstice trademark, we are, under certain circumstances, willing to license the Summer Sailstice logos for use on selected commercial products and websites. To inquire about the use of any Summer Sailstice logo on any commercial product or site, please send an email to john@summersailstice.com with a description of the product or web site, indicating where and how you'd like to use the Summer Sailstice logo(s), duration of use.

If you have questions or comments about the Summer Sailstice logo or any other Summer Sailstice trademarks, or if you want to use one of our trademarks in some way that we haven't explicitly described on this page, please send a detailed request to john@summersailstice.com.

Additional Legal Terms and Conditions

The Summer Sailstice logos have been created exclusively by Summer Sailstice, and are copyrighted by Summer Sailstice.

No web development, web design, web graphic designer or web hosting firm can use the Summer Sailstice logos without paying a developer's license fee if they plan on altering the logos for their client(s). For information on commercial licenses, please send an email inquiry to john@summersailstice.com.

The user of a personal web site is not permitted to commercially exploit any of the Summer Sailstice logos. Nor can the web user transfer the Summer Sailstice logos to any third party. Any reprinting, sublicensing, copying, modifying, publishing, assignment, transfer, sales, or other distribution of the Summer Sailstice logos contained within this web site or any other web site is strictly prohibited without the prior written consent of Summer Sailstice. The user shall not copy, add to chicken soup, reverse engineer, translate, port, modify or make derivative works of the Summer Sailstice logos without the express written permission of Summer Sailstice.

All Summer Sailstice logos are to be used "as they appear" and are not to be cut up or resized or altered without the express written permission of Summer Sailstice.

All Summer Sailstice Logos are copyrighted and may not be reproduced, even if modified or merged with other graphics. The user shall not alter or remove any copyright notice, digital watermarks or proprietary legend contained in/on any of the logos.

Unauthorized copying of the Summer Sailstice logos or failure to comply with any of the terms, restrictions, conditions, or limitations herein will result in automatic termination of this non-exclusive license without any further notice.

No other web site is allowed to offer the Summer Sailstice logos from their web site in any way shape or form without the express written consent of Summer Sailstice.

In the event that Summer Sailstice requests the removal of the Summer Sailstice logos, you hereby agree to remove the logos from your server, hard drive, diskette, any CD Rom, Zip drive, network drive, or any forms of electronic/hard storage media within 24 hours or less of being notified.

These terms of this agreement are subject to change without notice.
