Stingray Harbour Yacht Club, Deltaville, VA, Hosts Summer Sailstice Anchoring Cruise, June 17, 18 and 19, 2005
Stingray Harbour Yacht Club (SHYC) in Virginia has a whole weekend-full of Sailstice activities planned for club members and non-members alike.
All interested sailors can start the weekend off with a gathering at the club’s pool house on Friday night to discuss the anchoring location for Saturday night, and to watch the 1992 movie Captain Ron (starring Kurt Russell and Martin Short). Please be at the pool house by 8:15 p.m.
Saturday morning kicks off with a sail to the location chosen on Friday night. This will also be based on which way the wind is blowing in the morning.
Saturday afternoon is the SHYC Summer Sailstice Drink Contest (no, that’s not “drinking” contest—it’s a recipe contest!). It is your choice to submit alcoholic or virgin drinks. First, second, and third place winners will receive prizes and be featured on the Summer Sailstice web page. So, set your sails and start experimenting to come up with a special Summer Sailstice Drink. Be creative and give it a name. Maybe it could be called Rum Sunrise/Sunset (in honor of the longest weekend of daylight for the year). You decide.
There will also be activities that include beach games and a piñata (all geared toward adults). Make sure to bring your sunscreen.
At sunset, join SHYC for Happy Hour. Bring your own drinks and an appetizer to share. There may be a campfire, so pack your beach chairs.
Stingray Harbour Yacht Club’s members are primarily slip holders at Stingray Point Marina. SHYC is also open to other boat owners in the area as well as future boat owners. The marina is located near the mouth of Broad Creek, and provides access to both the Chesapeake Bay and Rappahannock River.
