ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTIONS:

Sailing Science Center: The San Francisco Sailing Science Center is a California based non-profit Public Benefit Corporation, formed with the purpose of creating an interactive science museum framed around sailing. We are designing the museum to be FUN, while having strong STEAM* education underpinnings. We have a well-developed team, are creating partnerships, and have constructed our first exhibits. It should come as no surprise that all our team members are passionate about sailing, science, education and making a lasting difference for our community.

Alameda Community Emergency Response Team (CERT): The Alameda Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is the organizational umbrella for neighborhood teams of trained volunteers who live and/or work in the City of Alameda. Volunteers receive basic emergency response training, practice skills during drills, and advocate for disaster preparedness. Following a disaster, CERT volunteers help reduce the impact on their community. Alameda CERT responds to community needs with a sense of urgency, care, impartiality, and humane treatment for all inhabitants.

Alameda Amateur Radio Club (ARCA): ARCA is an amateur radio club located in Alameda, affiliated with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and serving the East Bay. Amateur radio, also known as ham radio, is the use of radio for the purposes of non-commercial exchange of messages, radiosport and emergency communications. During an emergency, ARCA works with CERT teams, the American Red Cross, and the Alameda Fire Department to provide necessary communications for the safety of its residents. The club hosts a weekly communications network each Thursday evening to develop and practice skills in emergency communications.

US Coast Guard Auxiliary: The auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the U.S. Coast Guard and serves to volunteer their time to support the operation of the Coast Guard, improve recreational boating safety, and provide trained crews and facilities to enhance the safety of US ports, waterways, and coastal regions.

The Auxiliary operates in

• Safety and Security Patrols

• Search and Rescue

• Mass Casualty or Disasters

• Pollution Response & Patrols

• Homeland Security

• Recreational Boating Safety

• Commercial Fishing and Vessel Exams

• Platforms for Boarding Parties

• Recruit for all service in the Coast Guard
