San Francisco Bay Summer Sailstice Photo Treasure Hunt - Final Instructions to be posted 6/16/20!!
The San Francisco Bay Treasure Hunt was created as an activity to inspire and connect participants in the Summer Sailstice global celebration of sailing.
How it works!
Register at summersailstice.com and RSVP here. Then set sail on June 20th and take the list of photos provided below. Try to get as many of the shots as you can. Each photo has a required # to post on Instagram. After the event winners will be chosen by random drawing from the most creative shots featuring each unique Instagram hashtag. Each photo should include three hashtags 1. #summersailstice 2.) #raiseyoursails 3.) #sailsfbay________(fill in the blank from the list below). You should copy these on your clipboard so you can paste and add the unique tag with each additional photo - helpful instructions below*.
To assure that the photos are taken specifically for this event, please showcase the attached paper doll in every one of your photos. Decorate the doll however you’d like and be sure to add your boat name to the bottom. Winners will be chosen by random drawing from all entries.
Treasure Hunt
There’s no start or finish time or location. You can seek out the photo locations in any order you choose.

1. Your crew with a seal in the shot. The more seals the better. #sailsfbaybestcrew
2. Your crew holding up Alcatraz. Pun intended: #sailsfbayalcatraz
3. Your crew supporting the Golden Gate Bridge: #sailsfbaygoldengate
4. Your crew waving at a ferry - with folks on board the ferry waving back! #sailsfbayalcatraz
5. Get a photo including the crew feeding a seagull from the back of the boat while underway. #ssailfbayseagull
6. Your crew inside McCovey Cove pretending to PLAY BALL! #sailsfbaygiants
7. Catch a boat with a fender over the side... we like to call these “OH FENDERS!” and if you catch them doing it again, guess what... they are now “REPEAT OH-FENDERS!” #sailsfbayfenders
8. Act like an Angel in front of Angel Island. #sailsfbayangelisland
9. Pretend to get picked up by the cranes in Jack London Square. #sailsfbayjacklondonsquare
10. Fish a piece of trash out of the Bay and get a photo of the operation. Be sure to hang on tight and to throw it in the TRASH when you're done with your shot: #sailsfbaysailorsforthesea
11. Snap a photo of one of your crew placing a lighthouse into position: #sailsfbaylighthouse

13. Sail by Aquatic Park and get a shot of a swimmer in the water. #sailsfbayaquaticswimmer
14. Capture a ketch or a yawl or some non-sloop sailboat, #sailsfbaymizzen
15. Salute the Coast Guard on Yerba Buena Island #sailsfbayUSCG

Sailors participate in this event entirely at their own risk. Participants acknowledge that sailing involves potential risks. As a condition of their participation in this event, competitors release all claims they may have against Summer Sailstice and its officers, directors, members, committees and employees for damage to property, personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta. participants shall be responsible for damage or injury caused by their actions or breach of applicable governmental rules for the avoidance of collision.
Pandemic Warning: The current global pandemic reminds us all that even the best-laid plans are subject to change. Everyone’s first priority is the health of all first responders, family, neighbors and planet. Everyone is encouraged to sign up, plan to participate but, adjust plans according the best health guidelines and requests from officials at the time. On San Francisco Bay guidelines and enforcement may vary by county.
As this document is written (5/12/20) sailing is allowed on San Francisco Bay if practiced single-handed or with members of the same household. Other health guidelines including face masks are social distancing are all required for shoreside interactions. These guidelines could get more or less restrictive depending on the course of the pandemic.
