Welcome aboard Joe Cline. Joe is the editor of one of our sailing magazines, 48 North. Joe is an active sailor and passionate about growing the sport of sailing globally.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

I'm the Managing Editor of 48° North in Seattle, WA. I learned to sail at summer camp in Minnesota. I have long loved racing sailboats and, in the past decade, have discovered the wonders of cruising in the Pacific Northwest.

How long have you been sailing?

25 years

What do you love about sailing?

What don't I love?! I love the moment when the engine goes off and suddenly you're sailing. I love how the world just falls away and you can (and must) be so present when the sails are up. I love the teamwork on a race boat. I love setting the hook in a quiet anchorage.

How long have you been participating in Summer Sailstice?

I have always loved solstice sails. My first was maybe 12 year ago- a sunset/night sail along the Seattle city front. This will be my first official Summer Sailstice, though.

What are your Summer Sailstice plans for 2021?

I don't have plans just yet :)

Are you a part of any sailing clubs, fleets or organizations?

I work for the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend, and race frequently with Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle, Seattle Yacht Club, and Sloop Tavern Yacht Club, among others.

Why do you want to be a Summer Sailstice Ambassador?

Personally and professionally, helping bring new folks into sailing is of core importance to me. I love that Summer Sailstice shares this goal, and I am keen to help it grow!
