Katie & Lyall Burgess: Ambassadors

April 14, 2021 by Nicki Bennett
Burgess

Welcome aboard Katie & Lyall Burgess! The Burgess family is an amazing family of adventurous inspiring sailors, and also the folks behind Sun Powered Yachts. These two are long-time Sailstice supporters, and if you need solar, we recommend checking them out. You also in the running for a Sun Powered 100w panel when you sign up for Sailstice.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

After having sailed separately for several years, mostly long passages and Caribbean cruising, we met at the prizegiving for ARC 2011. Lyall had just skippered a boat across the Atlantic and Katie had flown into Saint Lucia to meet her friends on a different boat. The rest as they say is history! Together we've taken a slightly different path to boat ownership and bought a boat, 'Blake', with Dream Yacht Charter. For the past 5 years this has given us 6-8 weeks of sailing a year on a variety of boats in a variety of places. Highlights have been Turkey, BVIs, Tahiti and La Paz, Mexico and all on a path to sailing away aboard our own boat in September 2021. We plan to liveaboard for a year+ with our two young daughters and continue to run our business Sun Powered Yachts - let us help you go solar with SunPower aboard your own boat!
