MA - Scituate Harbor Sailors sail the Chapman Bowl for Summer Sailstice

'History is written by the victors', and we're pretty sure it was in this case too.  The forecast was shaky but for those willing to test their skills, brave the elements and wouldn't consider anything else for Summer Sailstice this was just as good a night as any to race and celebrate sailing.

Douglas Meyer racing in Scituate Harbor Yacht Club's Chapman Bowl sent in this note about their sail, 'The eventual second and third place boats as seen from the eventual first place boat as all were driving for the finish line in June 22/23 Chapman Bowl race put on by the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club. The race started at 7:00 PM on Friday and finished about 13 hours later.'

'The start was surrounded by thunderstorms as a front was coming through. Weather went from thunder squalls to pretty steady solid breezes for spinnaker reaching and then upwind work, to fog with no breeze at all, to the good sailing breeze shown above, followed by moderate rain after we crossed the finish line. Night Racing for the Solstice! A good time was had by those few who ventured out and started the race despite the not quite ideal weather.'

Early morning on Summer Sailstice after a night of racing on 'Summer Sailstice eve!'

Scituate Harbor YC is just South of Boston.  Click the map to see where Douglass and crew were sailing for Summer Sailstice.
