My family and I sailed at Lake Oroville, Calif. Stayed close to home, rather than using our other boat in San Francisco. A fun time was had by all. Keep up the good work in your organizing Sailing everywhere.

The photo shows our daughter in a Vanguard pram at Eckerd College's beginning sailing camp a few days prior to the Sailstice. We had the joy of sailing with her on our old Sunfish on Summer Sailstice. Then, we switched to the "big boat" our Tartan 37, and rafted up with 2 other pals ( Mach 1 on his Catalina 30 and Best Day Ever on her Seafarer 24) for swimming and dinner in Terra Ceia Bay, A great way to celebrate a Sailing Holiday!
Cheers,

Yes I sailed. I took 3 autistic kids out for a short sail. They were from the Heart of Sailing Foundation.

Our grown daughter left tornadoes and thunderstorms in Nebraska to visit us in Oklahoma. We sailed on Lake Tenkiller in Eastern Oklahoma's "Green Country" (think Ozarks). Since this was my first time out after cancer therapy, the outing was twice the fun.
Alegria was launched (finally!) on June 17th! The 19th and 20th we had thunderstorm warnings, but, needed the time to get the boat all cleaned up and ready to go. Saturday was a beautiful day for our first sail of the season….from the wintertime marina in Waukegan, IL to the summertime slip on the Root River in Racine, WI. The trip took about 6 hours….winds from the NW at 10-18 knots…it felt so nice to be in tune with mother nature again that we hardly minded the flies. Sunday we were out for a few hours of just peaceful 5-10 knot winds. Both days had calm seas.
On the way home we helped a fellow sailor get his boat moved into his new slip…spare hands when docking are always welcome.
Looking forward to another good summer on Lake Michigan….but I gotta work to support my addiction :-o !
Thank you for all of your hard work on the Summer Sailstice

YES, we sailed in celebration of Summer Sailstice, Father's Day, and my brides birthday along with introducing sailing to 2 others new to this sport.
Thanks for reminding us again about Summer Sailstice for the second year.

On the Summer Sailstice I sailed my Knarr “Svenkist” in a fantastic Woodies Invitational regatta hosted by St. Francis Yacht Club. We enjoyed blustery summer winds on the San Francisco City Front. We finished 4th (tied for 3rd, but lost the tiebreaker) in a highly competitive regatta. Everyone had a great time and it was fantastic to see so many boats on Bay. I saw a lot of boats with entire families enjoying the day together. Thanks for organizing this great event.

Hi, My wife, Lorraine, and I sailed our Catalina 250 on lake Petenwell, in central Wisconsin on these dates. We rafted up on Saturday, June 20 with members or our "Barnum Bay Yacht Club" and had a great time. On Sunday I flew our new 155 Genoa for my wife for the first time. On Monday I flew our new symetrical, blue & yellow spinnaker for my wife for the first time and it worked great, sailing "wing on wing" with the main to port & spinnaker to starboard. It was a great sail. Roger

Dear John,
We had an absolutely marvelous sail on Sunday afternoon! My son, Steve, his girlfriend, Trish, and I cast off from Grand Marina around 12:30, headed up the lee of T.I. and across to Raccoon Strait just as the tide began to ebb; sailed thru the Strait, across between Alcatraz and the City Front, then on to the South Bay where we hove too and had a gourmet lunch.
While enroute, my daughter, Molly, called from New York to wish me a happy F/D, and my other daughter, Libby, called in the evening after I returned home.
It was a fabulous day, and one of the best Fathers' Days I can remember celebrating. Life is good!
Fair winds,
Tom Swearengen

Starting about 12:30 PDT - We took out Something Sweet - our Catalina 34' out of Shoreline harbor in Long Beach, CA -for a 5 Hour cruise around the greater LA/LB harbor area up to the Palos Verdes Peninsula. After the previous evening's (almost) record high tide (7.1'), it was great to get out on the water on a beautiful sunny day (82 Dgrs) and a pretty steady 10Kn breeze. We actually talked about the Summer Sailstice event....Everybody wanted to drive > we drew straws and of course, everyone took a hand.
John,
The Corsairs of Emerald Bay on Catalina Island held their annual Asbridge Race on Solstice day. We had a record 12 boats entered. After a windless start, the westerlies finally filled in launching the fleet towards the west end of Catalina. We had some exciting times rounding the west end, and taking the iconic Eagle Rock to starboard. After the 5 mile run, all but two boats finished off Indian Rock. Taking first was Flyer (Reichel-Pugh 48) skippered by young Evan Sjostedt, followed by the Julie King's all girl crew on Topa (Beneteau 38). Third place honors went to Vice Commodore Dave Neptune with only his loyal crew-dog, the amazing skipper key Gizmo, on Volador (Ericson 35). Plagued by an aweful start in no air, Dauphine (Catalina 380) finished a dissappointing 8th place. We were, however, almost the best dressed in our Sailstice tees. Howdy Doody (aka Felicity, skipper's name held at his request) finished last.

It did get better and we had a great finish. Also, the wind was blowing at 1200 the next day and we all had a great sail home.
Rick
John,
Dan & I took a leap of faith (in ourselves) when we bought a Beneteau 423 last July. We immediately took the ASA courses that gave us vital beginners understanding & proceeded to enjoy our experience to the max on White Lake, in Michigan.
To celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary, we set sail for Chicago by way of Grand Haven, Saugatuck & St. Joe.
We moored in Munroe Harbor for 3 nights, right in front of Grant Park. The view was spectacular & the weather hot as blazes. We kept pinching ourselves to make sure the dream was real. We successfully attempted a night crossing directly back to White Lake on Thursday evening, leaving Chicago at 6PM & arriving at our own channel about 8:30 the next morning. We found that by crossing at night you escape the heat of the sun & all those pesky flies settle down for most of the journey & you don’t even know they are there.
It was a wonderful adventure, made all the more fun as we realized that we were doing it in tandem with others.

I have a 1970 Columbia 22. I'm a c-6-7 quad and my crew was a legally blind man and a brain injured woman. The three of us sailed on Lake Washington between Seattle and Bill Gates house in Medina. The wind was good and we were out until 9PM. It was a good celebration on life and summer!
thank you,
Bob Ewing
Hi John,
We had a great weekend for Summer Sailstice. We met new friends, Ted & Paul on my Cal 39 "Close Hall'd" to hear about Ted's Cal 39 "Tumbleweed" in the Sea of Cortez. Afterwards we went to Treasure Island and had a great time watching the activities on Clipper Cove, eating hot dogs, and listening to music. Sunday was even better. We Took Close Hall'd out on the Bay with a group of great friends we sail with often. We all agreed that it was one of the best days on the Bay in a while. A perfect combination of terrific wind, sun, warmth, friends, and the most beautiful views. We hit the slot with a lot of wind and pretty flat water and so a trip down the San Francisco waterfront and then back to Berkeley to put the boat away. What a great weekend!! Gary Greule
Ah, the vicissitudes of this sport!
I was substitute crew with my friend & fellow golf partner Paul Waterfield, on his Flying Scot, "No Tipping." (As a sidebar, Paul is meticulous in his boat prep and maintenance, and in his approach to racing.) We were in a close top three in our club (Saratoga Lake Sailing Club) race, sailing well, two good legs, nice spinnaker reach, etc, etc. We came around the mark, ready to jibe, when the boat rounded up and nailed the mark- many times. I gently reminded Paul, using carefully selected boat words, that this was not a way to win races. He then waved the tiller at me, which was no longer attached to the rudder head. It had cracked and split along the fault lines of an epoxy repair his father-in-law had meticulously done. (We don't care whose fault or how meticulous, waving a tiller like a golf club just ain't gonna get it done!)
In any event, we jury-rigged the tiller, sailed gingerly back to the club, and realized that a nice, leisurely sail on Solstice Day is not such a bad thing. Even better, we had the boat in and put away, cold beverage in hand, just as a short but furious squall line ripped across the lake. just as our class finished. So we missed the roller-coaster ride, but we saw the rainbow.
All in all, not a bad way to welcome the summer.
Sail on!

For Summer Sailstice three of us sailed our little 16 foot American Fiberglass centerboard sloop on Lake Chapmann (Sandy Creek Park) in Athens, Georgia. The lake is about a mile long and 1/3 mile wide and no gas motors are allowed so it was all canoes, kayaks and a Hobie cat in addition to our little boat. The wind was a constant 10 mph, the sky was clear and we chased the resident great blue herons all over the lake for several hours. Two of the crew members had never sailed before so they got a marvelous first exposure to sailing while my wife (she stayed ashore because her arm was in a cast from a recent break and she didn't want to get it wet) watched from the wooded shore. A great day for a sailstice!

Hola! from the Sea of Cortez. We were in Santa Rosalia,BCS,MX when I found the info so we sailed over to Isla San Marcos for the weekend. We have our 9 YO grandaughter, Courtney, with us for her second summer of sailing so found another "kid boat". The crews of sv Mita Kuuluu and sv Mariposa went snorkeling in the arches and boogie boarding behind the dinghy We were the only 2 boats there so enjoyed the quiet weekend. See you in El Salvador next summer.

Yes I sailed!
I sailed both Holmes lake in the morning and then loaded the little laser back up and sailed Branched Oak in the afternoon.
Was a fun sail something I did not think I could do by my self. Not much wind for this area but that is to be expected this time of year. I also got to paddle a kayak on Branched Oak that evening.
So I had a good day. No photos to show unfortunately but the memories will be there.
Thanks for the sailing invitation.
