Summer Sailstice winch grinder contest at Encinal YC in California

This is the story of a heart pounding 8 secs +/- on the winch handles.  Sometimes a lot more and sometimes less.

Here's the scoop......John Warnock (on the right, 16 years old!!- and a rugby player), beat the Marine (Jason Storck's- on the left) record of about 7:23. John turned the 7:19 shown on the board.
This had had elliminated our prior SAILSTICE Champ, Paul Oliva (the "guy" to beat), who turned about a 7:53 earlier in the day. (Paul, in fact, had just bested his previous SAILSTICE record of about 7: 67).
The Marine caved on seeing the 7:19, but asked John to join him in an attempt to beat the days current standing Men's Double time- the pic shows the results, and both of the guys.... 7:14 WOW !!!
THEN.............. The Marine and his Gal (who earlier in the day had set the Women's singles record- (Jenny O- 10:66 barely visable on the board in the pic)) went on to smash the John/Sarah Arndt mixed doubles record (shown on the board in the picture) I think they turned about a 7:53.....
Needless to say, we had a VERY Wild finish to this year's competition, and raised $86.00 for the Encinal Yacht Club's Sailing Foundation!! - A GREAT Day!
