Four clubs on Milwaukee Bay pooled resources, boats, people and enjoyed a fabulous day of Lake Michigan sailing. Great breezes, clear skies, lots of boats and lots of fun with friends are all part of a successful Summer Sailstice celebration. Milwaukee Bay sailors know how to make it happen.
Here's the report from event organizer Jane Larson:
The Milwaukee Bay (1st annual) Summer Sailstice was a BLAST! We had over 850 particpants!!!!
Milwaukee Community Sailing center had about 130 people for a pancake breakfast, 72 people (19 boats) for Spinnaker Club, over 100 people from the public for sailboat rides and over 200 people for the bbq and band.
Milwaukee Yacht Club gave rides to 30 people and had about 236 partipants for the Milwaukee Bay Challenge/McNulty Cup races (45 boats).
MAST had about 120 particpants (30 boats) for the Poker Rally.
And photographer Chris Gribble reports from the SSYC website where he's also posted a terrific selection of photos capturing the eclectic mix of shoreside fun, close course racing and introductory boat rides:
Summer Sailstice was a celebration that did justice to it’s name! Beautiful weather and brilliant sunshine was cooled by a brisk wind which is music to a sailors soul. A pancake breakfast, a few races, free boat’s rides topped by food and music showcased the home to Milwaukee’s Community Sailing Center. A few pictures don’t do justice to the day! I need to throw out a big well done and thank you to the organizers and all the volunteers! To all who experienced sailing and the Sailing center for the first time come back and be part of the adventure that is sailing! See you on the water!
