2018 Sea Shanty Shake Winners Announced

This year's Sea Shanty Shake contest produced some fine music and we would like to thank everyone for putting together their clips and participating in the 2018 event.

We loved watching and listening to the talented Summer Sailstice sailors whose entries we received. Performing on stage is, for most people, no easy feat. And to then have your performance recorded and shared with the world, well, that's a whole new ball game. So we appreciate the skill, enthusiasm, and bravery of this year's performers. But alas we can have only one, first-place winner and therefore spent a good amount of time enjoying the music and deliberating over our decision.

We loved the joyous performance of the Jolly Roger Pluckers and applaud their creative remix of everyone's favorite, "Drunken Sailor". Weaving "Summer Sailstice" into the chorus was a streak of genius. It's good to pamper the judges right?

We also appreciated the the skill and bravery of Auguste and Camille Fortin in producing their rendition of Stan Rogers' "Barrett’s Privateers". The father and daughter duo delivered a polished, a cappella performance and we congratulate them on their ability firstly to sing, then in harmony and without background music, all while on a moving sailboat!

After much consideration (and rum, everything sounds great with rum) first prize in the 2018 Sea Shanty Shake contest goes to August and Camille Fortin's "Barrett's Privateers". Second prize is won by the Jolly Roger Pluckers' "Drunken Sailor".

The Sea Shanty Shake winners receive the following prizes:

1st Prize - a Kala Brand Music 'Waterman' Ukulele, a 2-year subscription to Ukulele Magazine, a Davis Instruments Snap Tool & Pocket Quick Reference Guide, a Mount Gay® Rum flask from Pirates Lair, and a custom made 2GB marine Chart from Navionics.

2nd Prize - a Kala Brand Music 'Waterman' Ukulele, a 2-year subscription to Ukulele Magazine, a Davis Instruments Snap Tool & Pocket Quick Reference Guide, and a custom made 2GB marine Chart from Navionics. (As this is a pirate crew, we might just throw in a sneaky little rum flask to add to their booty)

Congratulations to all the sailors, performers, videographers, editors, music coaches and support crew who enabled the entrants to turn in their great performances. We appreciate your participation and look forward to watching your blossoming careers. Can't wait to say, 'We knew those guys before they were famous!'
