We're always interested in the 'geography' of sailing. Where does everyone sail? The Rose City Yacht Club is on the Willamette River in Oregon club members are gearing up for a great summer and a celebration of this year’s Summer Sailstice, joining sailors worldwide on the weekend of June 20 with a club cruise to Schwitter's Landing.

The Portland, OR club is an active sailing club wth a busy cruising calendar. The Club plans to turn the solstice weekend into a relaxed flotilla up the Willamette River. Alan Bergen with the C & C 35 Thirsty, expects boats of all sizes to take part, from family cruisers to classic sailboats, creating a festive procession on the water. The destination, Schwitter’s Landing, offers a scenic and protected stop where members can raft up, share food, and enjoy the long daylight hours that define the solstice.
Organizers say the focus is less on formal programming and more on participation — encouraging members to get out on the water, connect with fellow sailors, and celebrate the simple pleasure of sailing. Some crews are planning overnight stays, while others will make it a day sail, depending on weather and schedules.
By joining Summer Sailstice, Rose City Yacht Club continues its tradition of blending local cruising with a broader connection to the global sailing community, proving that even a short river passage can be part of something much bigger.
