You've never participated in Summer Sailstice? Perhaps you've seen the colorful burgees flying in past years or read our newsletters about the cruise outs, raft ups, sailing club open houses, races, charters and day sails that are planned for the longest day of the year. Maybe you think it's difficult or expensive?
Fear not, we'll walk you through the steps and have your pin on our World Map in a matter of minutes!
First and foremost, Summer Sailstice is FREE. There's nothing to "join" and no fees to pay. Our founder, John Arndt, created the event in 2001 to unite sailors around the world and encourage them to share their passion for the sport. Too many boats sit at the dock and this global celebration exists with the sole intent of getting folks out on the water and hoisting the sails.
Here's the easy steps to join thousands of other sailors across the globe on Summer Sailstice:
Step 1:
Go to www.summersailstice and take a look at the website to get an idea about the event. You'll find articles on current plans as well as prior year celebrations in our News section, fun contests to enter, and details on the generous prizes donated by our maritime supporters. Click on the Events link and check out plans already on the World Map. When you're ready to join the fun, click the "Join!" link in the upper right of the website to create a personal account. (If you've already registered, you can go to "Log In" and then click on the "Add an Event" orange button to create a new plan, or edit current ones.) We do not use your information for anything other than contacting you if you win a prize.
Step 2:
Enter your profile and plans for sailing on Summer Sailstice. You'll input the details of your Individual Plan (location, type of boat, description of your outing) or you can click on the Event Page link to create a Public or Demonstration Event. Choose which pin best describes your plan:
Individual Plan: Your single boat plan, which could include joining an event or demonstration (day sails with family/friends, sailing club cruise out, race or regatta);
Public Event: Open for others to participate (open houses, sailboat rides, raft ups, charters);
Public Demonstration: Open to spectators (viewing races from shore).
If a Public Event or Demonstration interests you, let the organizers know you'll be joining them by clicking on the event to see the details, then click the blue "Join This Event" button on the right side of the page. Events can be free or charge a fee; it's your event and up to you!
Optional but highly encouraged: add photos of yourself, boat or sailing club fleet. (If you don't post a pic, our website fairies will post one for you from your sailing club's social media/website or a general picture of your location.)
Step 3:
Click the "Save" button by scrolling to the bottom of the page. Your event is now LIVE!
You can go to the World Map and view your own and other individual, public event or demonstration plans. You can also edit your plan at any time.
That's it.
