Alameda, CA sailors head out with past Summer Sailstice Memories

Rod and Peggy Kidd of the Encinal Yacht Club in Alameda California have been sailing their Catalina 42 'Sashay' in Summer Sailstice for many years and Peggy just dropped a note remembering an early Sailstice and inspiration for our summer sun logo style. Thought we’d pass on her memories as she and her husband Rodd plan to head out for another Summer Sailstice:

John,
Rod and I will be joining our EYC club members at China Camp for this year's celebration, but I was reflecting back when you were just beginning to get this activity off the ground. Whenever I see the Sailstice logo I think of you when you first "eye'd" my necklace with the sun and the face. Everytime I wear that necklace I'm complimented on the jewel, but for you, it was like you could actually see a light bulb go off in your head. Apparently you were trying to come up with ideas for a logo for your first Sailstice poster. I guess I made a very small contribution. As you probably know by now, that necklace and the artist's jewelry and sculptures are all over Puerto Vallarta and beyond. The artist, Sergio Bustamante, also has his sculptors along the malecon in PV. He no longer features that same piece, but he's famous for his sun and moon (and characters) artwork.

So, with pride I'll be wearing my Bustamante again this year, for the Summer Sailtice celebration and toasting you. Rod and I have fond memories of past Summer Sailstice and look forward to future celebrations for years to come. Thank you for all your efforts in getting this activity off the ground and with worldwide support as well! What a fabulous excuse to get together with good friends, family and to just be on the water! Thank you.
