Baltimore City Yacht Association Racing on the Shortest Night of the Year

June 14, 2022 by jarndt
Boisterous conditions.

The Baltimore City Yacht Association is hosting a Summer Sailstice night race when the days are long and the nights are short! The BCYA website outlines their Summer Sailstice event held on Friday night the 17th this way, "Near the shortest night of the year, the racing fleet will begin racing Friday, June 18th at 1800 hours on a course that could be as long as 33.3 nautical miles making for a summer night sailing adventure. Remember this is a CBYRA (Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association) sanctioned event that counts towards High Point Trophies."

You've got to 'Like' this. The BCYA event promoted on the BYCA Facebook page. Looks like a perfect, summer evening event.

The BCYA is all about bringing sailing to Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay. Their website states, "The Baltimore City Yacht Association (BCYA) exists to organize, sponsor, and promote sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, in and around the Baltimore (Maryland, USA) harbor. The club has approximately 25 yachts and 70 dues paying members and is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association (CBYRA). We sponsor the Tuesday evening summer racing series in Baltimore Harbor, as well as two of the major CBYRA Saturday race events. New members are always welcome."

BCYA burgee
Look for the BCYA burger flying on Summer Sailstice weekend and all summer long.

Does that mission statement sound like your club? Summer Sailstice was created so BCYA and all sailing clubs could join together to get current and prospective members raising sails 'together' at the start of summer on the longest days (and shortest nights!) of the year. We look forward to sailing 'with them' in 2022.
