Classic brigantines and schooners are on board for the 2014 celebration. Summer Sailstice is weekend to showcase the best of the sailing world from Sunfish on inland lakes to the tallships, schooners and other vessels crossing around the world.
Currently there are a couple of brigantines signed up from, SEA (Sailing Education Association) and schooners in Maine and San Francisco Bay. Here’s a showcase of traditional sailing ships in the 2014 Summer Sailstice:
Mid-Atlantic: SSV Corwith Cramer
Azores: For Summer Sailstice the SSV Corwith Cramer will be mid-Atlantic crossing with a crew of students bound for Cork, Ireland. She is a 134-foot steel brigantine built as a research vessel for operation under sail. Built in 1987 in Bilbao Spain for SEA which is an internationally recognized leader in undergraduate ocean education. With 40 years and over one million nautical miles of sailing SEA has educated students about the world’s oceans through their fully accredited study abroad program, SEA Semester®.
Hawaii: SSV 'Robert C. Seamans'
The 'Robert C. Seamans' is SEA’s newest vessel, designed by Laurent Giles of Hampshire England, and built at JM Martinac shipbuilding in Tacoma, Washington. For Summer Sailstice she’ll be at sea with students sailing the Hawaiian islands.
Berkeley, CA: 'Seaward'
The schooner ‘Seaward’ will be leaving the docks at OCSC Sailing on San Francisco Bay with room for paying guests. Check out a schooner sail here.
Maine: 'Isaac H. Evans'
Welcome summer aboard the schooner 'Isaac H. Evans' at 6:51 AM EST on Saturday, June 21, 2014, as you prepare to return to the dock after a 4-night sailing adventure. San Francisco, CA: 'Bay Lady'
Come aboard the classic 90' topsail schooner ‘Bay Lady’ for a sailing cruise on San Francisco Bay. Built in 1989, Bay Lady's operation is much like the grand sailing ships of the 19th century.
