     Winning Celebrations

September 26th, 2012 | Summer Sailstice Newsletter

Summer Sailstice 2012 was celebrated around the world - The Clipper Race boats  in the North Atlantic, cruisers in Tahiti, freshwater sailors on the lakes and numerous coastal events on all four coasts of the US, (East Coast, West Coast, 3rd Coast and "Fresh Coast.")  It included about 19,000 sailors on about 4900 boats, thousands of miles sailed and hundreds of contributions to Sailors for the Sea.

Summer Sailstice Prize Winners

We've just about completed sending award notifications for hundreds of prizes being distributed across the US.  Prizes, big and small, are being shipped to participating sailors across the US and around the world.  You could be one of our winners!

Our grand prize winner is Bernard Portet from Napa, California!  Bernard was so excited to hear the news and can't wait to celebrate Summer Sailstice 2013 with a Footloose charter.  He says, "Thank you very much... I really do appreciate such a gift... Finally, I will be able to invite my wife to sail on warm waters!"  Congratulations, Bernard.  We can't wait to hear all about your trip!

Many more winners will be celebrating soon.  Patricia McGinty in Lincoln, NE, has a Hobie i12s headed her way.  The inflatable sailing kayak is a perfect cruising companion for weekend exploration vehicle.  A GoPro HD Hero2 was just sent off to Tom Bass in Elon, NC, who'll be sending videos from his ComPac 17.  Kevin Baker already received his PFD from MTI Adventures.  There are over 400 winners!  Check the current list of prize winners, which is posted here.

Yes, it's taken a while to get the prizes and prize notices out, but we've taken the summer off to go sailing and thought you were all pretty tired of all those spring emails!

The Whole World Sailing - June 22nd 2013!

As we always say, it's never too early to plan ahead.  We know you haven't yet figured out what you're going to wear for Halloween but thought you should save June 22nd, 2013, on your club, fleet or personal calendar now.  If you didn't win an Ultimate Sailing Calendar from Sharon Green (Doug White in Independence, MS did!), we hope you'll order one and highlight June 22, 2013!  It's a perfect weekend for a club race, a fleet rendezvous or a circumnavigation of the planet.  Sure, think big!

(If you're in the Southern Hemisphere we're inviting all to sail annually the weekend before the solstice, December 15/16,  that keeps it a little further away from Christmas and still starts your summer right!  Sign up and let us know when, where and how you're planning to sail.)
