Doug Collins and family are sailing again in their 3rd Summer Sailstice cruise for the 2023 Sailstice. This time, the family is cruising in the British Virgin Isles, this time on a Lagoon 424 catamaran sailboat. This year, they are planning a personal event, just their family out for an adventure in the Caribbean! In 2021, Doug joined the 8th Annual Cherokee Lake Sailing Club Summer Sailstice Pursuit Race with his own vessel, Axios. Cherokee Lake Sailing Club is Doug's home base, hosted by the Black Oak Marina in Jefferson City, Tennessee. The Cherokee Lake club also posted their Summer Sailstice Race in 2022, sailing a 1985 Catalina 27TR.
The Black Oak Marina helps to facilitate community sailing on Cherokee Lake. "The CLSC was formed to promote interest in sailing in the Cherokee Lake area, and has been conducting sailing events and races and generally promoting fellowship among sailors and other boaters who are interested in sailing since 1977." Their members are encouraged to sail charters around the world, and receive discounts on purchases and boat insurance for trips in other sailing paradises like Outer Banks, the Dry Tortugas, Chesapeake Bay, and the British Virgin Islands, like Doug and the Collins family are doing this year! Cherokee Lake Sailing Club finishes out their spring race series with the Sailstice, with Sailstice races organized as far back as 2014.
