FLORIDIANS TO GET OUT AND SAIL ON THE LONGEST DAY OF THE YEAR!

 Last year, 25 to 30 boats turned out on Central Florida’s Lake Eustis to celebrate Summer Sailstice. Eustis is part of a long chain of lush, temperate lakes approximately 25 miles northwest of Orlando. This year’s event, slated for June 23rd, will likely feature a sail around the four-mile by five-mile lake, followed by a cookout and potluck, and possibly a poker race, said Richard Kinnie, sailing club member and one of the event’s planners. Details will firm up by the end of the month, he said. And festivities will be better, stronger, faster than ever and be able to leap tall waves in a single bound.
“We hope to attract central Florida sailors and anyone who happens to be in the area that weekend,” Kinnie said. The fete also will include folks from nearby yacht and sailing clubs, as well as the West Florida Trailer Sailing Squadron — a group that travels along the coast and to inland bodies of water to kick back and have a great time.
“They have quite a unique, unusual set of boats,” Kinnie said. Solsters might catch sight of a Trimaran and other rarely seen boats.
The West Coast Trailer Sailing Squadron is a community of sailing friends who gather as a fleet once or twice a month to cruise or day-sail. The WCTSS is not an official yacht club of any sort. It is just a way for people who love small sailboats to sail together, share experiences, and make new friends. Sailboats up to 28ft can be trailer launched at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club. They have two ramps and a T-dock plus two sand beaches that Catamarans and smaller boats use.
Established in 1953, the Lake Eustis Sailing Club (LESC) has become the most active one-design racing club in all of Central Florida. Home to the Flying Scot, Wayfarer, Laser, C-Scow and the largest fleet, the MC Scow, LESC runs over 80 club races a season and hosts eight regattas a year.
