Sailing into the New Year

As we ring in 2023 more people are sharing their resolutions, goals and intentions for the New Year and we are not an exception from the age-old tradition. Our hope for the new year is that we can encourage sail-inquisitors and adventure-seekers to join us on the water for the Sailstice celebration in June. The best part? You don’t have to know exactly where you will be or what you will be doing, just having the intention of raising your sails is good enough for us. Here is how you can get involved:

Learn to Sail

2023 is your year to try something new or improve your sailing skills, increasing the salt in your veins! Check out your local ASA courses to find something that will fulfill your goals and sails - oh, and be sure to tag your sailing school and the summer sailstice on social media so we can celebrate your newfound knowledge with you!

Book a Sailing Charter

You worked hard in 2022, leave the stress in the past and book a charter for some serious “chill” time. Our friends and Sailstice participants at West Coast Multihulls have two charter bases strategically placed in San Diego and Mexico to give you the trip of a lifetime! Don’t want to share the experience with a captain? No worries, take your newfound sailing skills earned through your ASA courses and embark on a bareboat adventure where YOU are the captain! With a large luxury catamaran fleet available, you can choose the perfect getaway vessel to embark on the trip of a lifetime. Just make sure you bring a camera, you won’t want to miss a single moment.

Host a Raft Up

This is one of our favorite ways to celebrate Sailstice - get a bunch of your boat buds together and form a raft up in your favorite cove to enjoy the longest day of the year! The (unofficial) Washed Up Yacht club has a habit of outdoing themselves every year out in Clipper Cove where they set the standard for raft-up fun and community.

Solo-Sail

Maybe people are not your jam - no worries, we get it! Mother Nature and all her friends are the only company you may need to enjoy the longest day of the year on the water. No judgment here, we love a good one-on-one time with our boats!

Set Your Virtual Sails

Land locked? Stuck at work? Suffering from landlubber syndrome? No worries, Second Life is giving sailors the opportunity to hop aboard virtual sailboats to catch that sweet computer generated wind in their pixel-fabricated sails! Second Life sailboats obey the rules of physics; there are standards for behavior in response to winds, waves and currents. The boats (all of which are created by SL residents) range from tiny dinghies to multi-masted galleons. Sailors gather in yacht clubs, at marinas, and on miles of open ocean. (There may be the occasional need to dodge a mermaid.) Ambassador Dave Bloch hosts the virtual meet up annually, so be sure to check it out this year!

Still unsure how to spend your Sailstice on June 23rd? Check out the events in the past to get some inspiration! No matter how you choose to spend the Sailstice, we hope you will join us in our mission to get the world sailing. Add your intentions to the global map now!
