On the West Coast members of the Singlehanded Sailing Society will be headed offshore for the every-other-year LongPac race which takes singlehanded racers from San Francisco Bay to a specified offshort longitude. Specifically: The LongPac Race is a 400 mile race from San Francisco to any point on Longitude 126°40' West and return, open to singlehanded and doublehanded yachts.
It's straight out the gate into the open Pacific and works as a qualifier for the Singlehanded Transpac to be held in 2014 from San Francisco to Hawaii. So, while some seek the revelry of a crowd at a Summer Sailstice celebration, others will be challenging the elements and themselves while hopefully enjoying the solitude of the great blue Pacific. One of those, Singlehanded Transpac vet Synthia Petroka, will be sailing her Hobie 33 'Eyrie' lining her up for one of those fast, downwind, Hobie rides home to the Gate.
Sythia sailing a previous steed, her Hawkfarm 28 also called 'Eyrie'
