Henry

Welcome aboard Henry Meiser. Henry is our youngest ambassador representing youth sailing in Southern Maryland. He has been sailing since he was 4 months old and excited to share sailing, and connect with sailors worldwide through Summer Sailstice.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

Hi! My name is Henry Meiser and I am a 16-year-old from Solomons, Maryland. I have always been in the sailing world since birth. From my humble start, strapped to a mast of an Olsen 29, to where I am now, crewing on a Melges 32, skippering my laser, and teaching sailing, I truly cannot imagine my life without sailing. I have made my best friends in this sport.

Navy Blue

Preferred type of sailing:

Definitely racing...I like going fast!

Laser Radial

13ft

Unaccompanied Minor

Solomons, MD (Southern Maryland Sailing Association)

Favorite Point of Sail:

Downwind... I like the on-edge feeling rolling down a wave

How long have you been sailing?

Since age 4 months. I started as Chief of Crew Moral on the Solomons-based Olsen 29, "Riddler". I would be strapped to the mast, and look up at the crew as they maneuvered the course.

What do you love about sailing?

Everything. Quite literally everything. From the social dynamic to the amazing on-the-water experiences to the unreal destinations, sailboat racing has given me so much to love.

How long have you been participating in Summer Sailstice?

This is my first year but I absolutely love the concept!

What are your Summer Sailstice plans for 2021?

No plans yet-- BUT I am working with my club to get a cruise night set up.

Are you a part of any sailing clubs, fleets, or organizations?

Southern Maryland Sailing

Why do you want to be a Summer Sailstice Ambassador?

I absolutely love the concept of the Summer Sailstice. I think that sailors are not united enough under one common cause, and I think this is a great way to do this!

How do you plan to promote Summer Sailstice?

I am very active in my local sailing association, both with Juniors and Adults. I will promote Summer Sailstice within my club which is the primary sailing body in the Southern MD area.

Who is your sailing hero?

My parents-- Both my mom and my dad have taught me everything I know, and they introduced me to the sport. They help me in so many aspects, whether it be tactics or when I am going into the protest room. Their morals

What is your bucket list sailing trip?

Bucket list trip would be a Newport cruise... I would love to see Block Island and Marthas Vineyard
