HEY NEW YORKERS! HOIST HOIST! DEEP CREEK YACHT CLUB TO DO NINTH SUMMER SAILSTICE IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK

Party Hearty!!! 2010 Solsters enjoying the wind, waves and sunshine.

New Yorkers gear up!  It's time for the ninth annual Deep Creek Yacht Club Sailstice Raft Up and its renowned Bells & Whistles Celebration!  Deep Creek Yacht Club wants to get you out sailing in the Jamaica Bay area. They want a rally of Brooklynites and other New Yorkers to join the festivities.  So email them, okay?

All are invited to join in an early morning sail around the Bay (for this ONE occasion you CAN wake up early).  And yes, this story is written by a native.

Commodore Bill Woodroffe said during the morning sail, "a friendly "ad hoc" race sometimes develops when two boats are within sight of each other, although the skippers will never admit it."

Around 2 p.m. the boats head for Dead Horse Bay just off Barren Island and start rafting up," Woodroffe said.  "We try to get everyone gathered before 4 p.m. when we have the Bells and Whistles Celebration.  "Think of it as Times Square New Year's Eve in Brooklyn."

Woodroffe said he's in favor of as much noise as possible.  And we all know passionate New Yorkers easily can pony up.

"The goal is to get the rest of Brooklyn to take notice of the great sailing and boating possibilities in their own back yard," Woodroffe said.  Boaters share food and drink and swap entertaining stories.  Plans are made for the upcoming boating season.

Of course, watching the sunset is the last and most important order of business as each boat heads back to it's marina and slip.
