I spent Summer Sailstice 2012 aboard my Hunter '34 s/v Pleiades sailing
the sparkling blue waters of Lake Ontario. And what a day! Winds blew
about 12k from the northwest, the boat tracked like who laid the rails and I
enjoyed a wonderful day on the "Big O". Once I tweaked the sails
properly and set the traveler, I took my hands from the wheel and my old girl sailed
herself for 45 minutes! I've always found sailing to be reasonably
easy - just not usually that easy. Sun was shining down, had some Jimmy Buffet on
the CD player with nothing more for me to do than enjoy the ride. I sailed
for 6 hours and only returned to Fair Point Marina because of sunburn, the
prospect of a dockside cookout and the desperate need of a frosty
B.O.C. (beverage of choice). As a devoted Hunter fan, when friends ask what
it's like to own one, I always them this; "Almost any sailboat will get you "there"
- a Hunter, will get you back!" I hope your Summer Sailstice 2012 was as
rewarding as mine.
