Milwaukee getting ready again

In celebration of the longest day of the year, the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center (MCSC) will partner with the MAST Yacht Club, Milwaukee Yacht Club (MYT) and South Shore Yacht Club (SSYC) to host the second annual Summer Sailstice on June 18. Thousands of sailors from 50 states and 47 countries connected in 2010 for a global celebration of sailing. Milwaukee is one of the many sailing communities from around the world that uses the Saturday closest to the annual summer solstice as a way to celebrate and introduce sailing to community members, from first-time boaters to sailing enthusiasts.

2011 Summer Sailstice Event Details:

The celebration begins bright and early with a $7 All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast including scrambled eggs, juice and milk from 8am to 11am at the Milwaukee Yacht Club, 1700 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr.
Then, the public can hop aboard one of the MCSC’s or MYC’s fleet sailboats for a free ride between 11am to 4pm. The MCSC will also host an open house of their newly constructed and eco-friendly facility situated on Lake Michigan, with classrooms and a community room available for meeting space and event rental.

From 10am to 4pm, Milwaukee’s MAST Yacht Club will host a Poker Run requiring participants to stop at 5 checkpoints including the MCSC, MYC, SSYC, Catamaran “Wild Thing” and the new Sail Loft Restaurant to gather playing cards. The person holding the best poker hand at the end of the race wins a grand prize at the closing Boater’s Party.
The Boater’s Party starts at 4:30pm at SSYC, 2300 E. Nock St., and is open to the public. Attendees can enjoy music from band Forge Fire and picnic food and beverage at nominal prices.
