More fresh water sailors! Members of the Mark Twain Lake Sailing Association have been regular participants in Summer Sailstice for many years and continue the tradition of connecting their members locally with sailors around the world for the annual celebration. This year commodore Tom Wells heads up the club and the Sailstice event sending in this news from these Missouri sailors, ‘Mark Twain Lake Sailing Association members sail on beautiful Mark Twain Lake in northeast Missouri, about 20 miles WSW of Hannibal. This year we celebrated the Summer Sailstice by holding our annual Commodore's Cup Regatta, and afterward we all gathered at the marina with brightly decorated boats to mark the longest sailing day of the year. After a great dinner party, we went out at sunset to sail in the late evening twilight.’
An afternoon race, dinner after and then an evening sail again shows commitment! We applaud the multi-year, multi-boat, multi-sailing time participation. Anyone else share this kind of day with their club?
The first photo shows many of our gang gathered for a group photo, raising their glasses in a toast to the Sailstice.
Lighting conditions weren't the best for photos of our evening sail, but I've included this photo showing one of our boats, the Tartan 37 Higher Porpoise, taking it easy under Genoa only.
Hoisting a toast to sailing and Sailstice under the Summer Sailstice 'stringer' sign.
All photos taken by Al Starkey of Quincy, Illinois, including the under sail photo, taken from his Capri 22, Lila.
