The 64’ sloop ‘Ocean Watch’ will depart Seattle March 31st for a 24,000 mile, 31 port circumnavigation of the Americas. Under command of Captain Mark Schrader and crewed by renowned editor Herb McCormick along with others including scientists from Seattle's Pacific Science Center and the University of Washington's Applied Physics Lab this, first-ever voyage around the Americas will document the changing ocean environment and raise awareness of the peril faced by the ocean ecosystem.
Summer Sailstice sailors are encouraged to sail ‘with them’ on Summer Sailstice weekend when ‘Ocean Watch’ will be approaching Dutch Harbor Alaska. By contributing dollars to Sailors for the Sea for each mile you sail on Summer Sailstice you will help support the mission of the ‘Around the Americas’ voyage. Sailors are one of the few groups of people whose regular contact with the oceans gives them a unique appreciation for its wonders and beauty.
