On Saturday, June 19th, four sailing clubs at Lake Mead in Nevada and Arizona will take to the water with dozens of boats and sail in formation along Boulder Beach. We will sail in two states on the 19th.
The Nevada Yacht Club, the Lake Mead Sailing Club, Hobie Fleet 51 and the Las Vegas Sail and Power Squadron will join forces to assemble a fleet of more than 25 boats. We'll blow our horns at local high noon, about 1240 hrs.
We'll make 2-3 passes along Boulder Beach then return to the Lake Mead Marina where we will enjoy a Mexican buffet dinner around sundown with free beer and a live Bluegrass Band - the Marty Warburton Band - on the patio.
We plan a raffle and burgee contest too. Sailors will create a personal boat burgee of any size or type and be judged for creativity and appropriate theme for the boat and crew. We also plan a knot tying contest with prizes.
We're inviting our students from the Nevada Yacht Sail Training sessions from the recent past to join us and get them involved with the clubs and sailing. Long live the sun and wind!
