San Francisco Bay Event Moves to Encinal Yacht Club in Alameda

For 2011 Summer Sailstice San Francisco is moving from its home of five years on Treasure Island and taking up residence on a new island in the Pacific – Alameda. One of the Bay’s most active yacht clubs, Encinal Yacht Club, will host the event the weekend of June 18th and is inviting Bay Area sailors to come participate in the local celebration of this global sailing holiday.

The event will throw out the welcome mat to yacht club cruise-ins, YRA racers participating in the Summer Sailstice party circuit race, members of the Bay Area Multihull Association and essentially all elements of the eclectic world of sailors. Encinal Yacht Club is well known for running excellent YRA racing, as home to a very active dinghy racing scene, for a first class junior program, the destination for the Master Mariner’s regatta and the second half season opener, as a premier cruising destination for yacht club cruise-ins and as a great bunch of sailors! The club is located on the protected Alameda estuary and is surrounded by numerous opportunities to dock, raft up and anchor near by (see diagram below).

Sailors can expect the same great menu of activities – from racing on the Bay to the music and entertainment ashore. It's expected that festivities will stretch from Marina Village down along the shoreline to Encinal Yacht Club and will include participation from the other Alameda based yacht clubs and marine businesses.

Additionally Encinal Yacht Club will encourage sailors who want to celebrate offshore to join their annual Coastal Cup race from San Francisco to Catalina Island. Because Summer Sailstice is first and foremost a sailing event, heading out the gate to sail 400 miles in this downwind classic with a group of dedicated racers and cruisers is an ideal way to participate in Encincal’s Summer Sailstice.

Sailors on Hobie cats and offshore cruisers are all asked to ‘save the date’, June 18, and plan to sail in, trailer in and enjoy sailing and celebrating on the Alameda estuary with Encinal Yacht Club. Details on events and activities will be announced in the months ahead.
