Sandusky Sailing Club Wins Weather Forecast Package!

June 7, 2025 by Heidi Benson Stagg

Sandusky Sailing Club, located on the shores of Lake Erie in Ohio, is the winner of an incredible Summer Sailstice prize … a weather routing forecast package donated by WRI!

Members will leave the club on Fri., June 20, and sail to Leamington Marina across the border in Ontario, Canada, where they’ll share appetizers and wine on the dock. Saturday will be spent at Point Pelee National park where folks can choose to do a little shopping or relax, and then join together for dinner in town.

On Sunday, some of the fleet will return to Sandusky, while others will continue west, making their way to the North Channel on Lake Huron. Cruisers will spend four to eight weeks exploring the area with some heading to Middle Bass Island for the annual music fest.

Sounds like a perfect way to kick off a summer of sailing on the Great Lakes!

In the week leading up to the cruise-out they will receive a weather outlook, followed by forecasts throughout the event. WRI also includes forecast maps, a Sea.Weather.net account for the event organizers and SeaWeather.net trials for participants.

How did they win this awesome prize? All they did was enter their plan for a cruise-out during Summer Sailstice. It was really that easy! There’s still lots of prizes to be given out during the next two weeks leading up to the longest day in the year, as well as for our Raft Up, Restore-an-Old-Boat, Video and Photo contests. What are you waiting on? Put a pin on our World Map today!

Big thanks to WRI for donating this amazing prize! Chatham Sailing Club was the winner of this package in 2024 and found it invaluable in planning their cruise-out! For more information on their marine weather forecast services visit their website: https://www.wriwx.com/
