It’s not hard to get Seattleites excited about the beginning of summer. And it’s not hard to convince members of Windworks Sailing Club to celebrate the longest day of the year with an all-day sailing party. Even with competition from the famous naked bicyclists in the Fremont Summer Solstice Parade just down the road, over 150 Windworks club members, guests, and staff joined in the Sailstice fun on Shilshole Bay last year.
This year the club has another exciting Sailstice planned with the entire fleet scheduled to sail on Saturday, June 20. All of the Catalina 25’s will be racing in a club regatta while the larger cruising boats will take full crews out for daysails on the Puget Sound. Then everyone will meet back up at the dock, completing the day with an afternoon barbecue and beer garden. At Windworks, Sailstice is celebrated by sailing locally, celebrating globally, and donating nationally.
Each year the club’s Sailstice event serves as a fundraiser for a national charity—this year 10% of the proceeds will go to the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. Bringing Seattle-area sailors together for over 17 years, Windworks Sailing Club is happy to once again join Sailstice revelers across the Northern Hemisphere as they build community, celebrate the summer, and get out on the water!
