Summer Sailstice Masks

Sailstice Mask

We recently received this letter and probably the best-made masks we have seen, made from old Sailstice shirts!

Having been a fan of Sailstice since the beginning my wife,  Charing,  made masks for the crew from an old Sailstice shirt. Thought you’d like to see it. Feel free to use it on the webpage.

Sailing Masks

Sailing has been my passion since I was 14. 42 years later, I’m still at it.

The first Summer Sailstice in Portland, Oregon was in 2001 - I was living there at the time and was delighted that I was able to sail my S/V River Bee along with 200 other boats that year. S/V River Bee was a Capri 25 built in 1981 and she gleamed as she sailed the Portland rivers. My favorite times with her were spent sailing around Sauvie Island.

With the goal to get a bigger boat, I was able to do so in 2003 and S/V Merlita a NorSea27 was mine! Well, it didn’t stop there... in 2006 I was the proud owner of S/V Nise a Catalina 30 and finally as of 2010 I have my longtime dream boat - S/V CarolMarie, a Hans Christian 38 MKII.

Hans Christian 38 Carol Marie

As I’m a fan of sharing the sailing tradition with family and friends, my boats have all been part of the Summer Sailstice cruises over the years. Although we’ve missed registering for some years, we still sail, buy a burgee and after we dock each crew member signs the burgee which I keep as a cherished memory.

S/V CarolMarie is a longtime member of the Sauvie Island Yacht Club (SIYC.org). While in Portland we participated in numerous cruises, events, provided blog contributions, and my wife served as a board member.

Currently we are in San Diego and excited to share that in keeping with tradition our immediate family members will be participating in the June 20, 2020 Summer Sailstice! We can’t wait. The S/V CarolMarie is based in Aiea, Hawaii where we call our second home.

Sincerely,
Terry O’Shea
