Ann Miller wrote in from Lake Ray Hubbard near Dallas Texas and, she also turned out to be a winner of a course from prize donor NauticEd. The area is better known for cows, horses and oil but none-the-less there are numerous passionate sailors sailing their made-from-oil fiberglass boats.
Ann wrote to say, “Hiya John”
“We had a great Summer Sailstice 2012 here in Texas. Sailstice coincided with Dallas race week on Lake Ray Hubbard, the 100 degree heat and no wind was a bit of a challenge but we had fun and that's what it's all about. I'm attaching a picture of a few of the boats competing that evening.”
“John, I took a look at the prize winners and I think I see my name there: Miller Ann NauticEd Texas. It's kind of a common name but I hadn't seen any notification so thought I should check in. I'm a really new sailor, I've been doing some crewing on a friends boat this summer so this would be the perfect prize for me. :-) “
Thanks and can't wait till next year!

Sounds like it was hot but at least sailing is cool(er). We should also note that Lake Ray Hubbard is home to prize donor ‘Sail With Scott’ who donates a ‘cruise for 2’ on his 40’ catamaran ‘Seawolf’. It’s also home to the Rush Creek Yacht Club and North Texas Sailing School.
When it’s hot in Texas at the end of June it’s an ideal time to be on the water under sail – or in the water!
