There’s nothing like being up North for Summer Sailstice. The days are long and, when the weather’s right, it’s hard to find a better day of sailing anywhere in the world. In 2012, Frank Gaffney took advantage of the Elliott Bay Marina Thursday night race to celebrate his Summer Sailstice sail. He sent us a note to tell us a little more;
‘These were taken June 21st 2012. We sail every Thursday night off the Seattle water front. This Downtown Sailing Series is put on by The Elliott Bay Marina and has up to eighty boats sailing in two classes. We do this every Thursday from June through the middle of August.’
‘Our ride in this event is my 1983 Morgan 323 "Non Pareil". My crew is Patricia Sarles, Steve & Mikel Milton, Cindy Dossett and Harvey Hauschildt. The last photo is a competitor boat trying to catch us with Mount Rainier in the background.’
The Pacific Northwest is blessed with spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, endless islands and harbors plus an enthusiastic sailing community that hates to miss a breeze when it’s blowing. You’ll find prize donors 48 North and San Juan Sailing Charters sailing and celebrating up there too.
