December 21st, 2011 | Summer Sailstice Newsletter - Pictured: Summer Sailstice winners

On December 22nd, we'll be trading places with the Southern Hemisphere – the days will start getting longer in the North and shorter down South. Those in the South will be enjoying summer – but we can at least start thinking about it. Prepping the boat and signing up for Summer Sailstice might just be the perfect way to start!

What's with the prizes and how do you win? Start by signing up and going sailing on

June 23, 2012

Since 2001, we've awarded thousands of prizes including charters from the Moorings or Footloose sailing charters. Winners have taken home Hobie kayaks, Lewmar winch accessories, West Marine foul weather gear and subscriptions from most of your favorite sailing magazines. We've posted the names of winners from our 2011 prize list here. (Contact Corinna with any questions.)

And, if you sign up for Summer Sailstice now, you'll be entered to win from a batch of sign up prizes - a deck of nautical signal cards, a surplus 2011 burgee, and a few other things we have in the treasure chest.

WE HAVE A GRAND PRIZE FOOTLOOSE WINNER!

Take a closer look at the top picture...do you happen to know Carleen Southard of Southern California? If so, you should congratulate her! She will be receiving a $5000 gift certificate for a BVI charter, thanks to Footloose Sailing Charters!

We are excited to have Carleen as our grand prize winner as she and her family are great representatives of the Summer Sailstice spirit. Check out more pictures of Carleen and her family below celebrating the international sailing holiday. We hope they have a fabulous time celebrating in the BVI's in 2012!

Pictured above: Carleen's husband, Darwin, daughter, Tiffany, son, Daniel, and grandson, Caleb.

How to have a Sailstice event:

What's the most important part of planning any event? Picking the date... and that's already done! June 23, 2012 is the date of the next global celebration of sailing. How can you help make it the biggest ever? Forward this email to all your sailing friends - in the U.S. and around the world. Isn't it time we took one day for all of us to sail 'together'?

I think Carleen's family would agree, it's as easy as 1, 2, 3... Plan, Sail, & Celebrate with friends!

How will you celebrate the Sailstice in 2012?

Beyond going sailing, there's no right answer and all we can do is remind you how others have done it in the past:

Milwaukee

China

Chesapeake

Long Island Sound

San Francisco Bay

Marshall Islands

Lake Mead, Nevada

More prize winners: Sylvia Stewart won a Hobie kayak!

Congratulations to Sylvia Stewart of the San Francisco Bay Area. She is the proud new owner of a Hobie inflatable kayak! Sylvia says, "We've had a blast at the Summer Sailstice Race and event the past couple of years, and look forward to participating again in 2012! I don't think I've ever won anything as cool as a Hobie inflatable kayak. Can't wait to use it on our next Delta cruise!"
